The Buck stopped here

The Buck stopped here

There was a time, not so long ago, when town officials both elected and appointed felt a necessity to comport themselves with dignity, to try to uphold their oaths of office, to set an example through word and deed for their constituents. It was sort of what we expected from the people we put in office, and the people that they appointed to unpaid, volunteer posts.

But somewhere along the line, all that stopped. Somewhere, local officials got it into their heads that a town post was a good path to take for personal enrichment. And I have to admit, the sudden proliferation of proposed wind farms has brought this out in spades.

In October, Oswegatchie Councilman Kenneth Wilson let people know he is.... Link here to continue reading

This is the kind of writing that we need now. It had been the kind of writing I grew to expect , but we all know that it takes two to tango. You can't blame Johnson. He's just a scumbag.People don;lt expect anything from him. There needs to be a major shake up at the "TIMES" to get it away from NY Times style of opinion control. The people there made the paper worth owning. Until the ownership changes, it won't be what it was. Maybe they should all leave and let the scumbag run his own stinking paper into the toilet. Write a column, Perry, and tell them you're on strike.

How did the WTD know that people weren't listening then, but are listening now? What was the mindset in 2009 that changed in two years? That's how short term the American memory is kept. One thing that hasn't changed is trust in Government. They just do whatever they please and the media follows like lemmings. The suppression of dissent started long before 9/11. The only time dissent was even popular was in the late 60s and early 70s. Boycotts sent powerful messages. Now any of that would be considered terrorism. and everyone better buckle up and fly right. Just like Superman after a nice cup of Kryptonite tea.

Its interesting that anon 12:55( who is entitled to his opinion on the quality of articles in the WDT) resorts to the rapidly becoming cliched use of the word "scumbag". Please , can't we exhibit a little originality, or at least accuracy or relevance in our desire to depict everyone in a less than positive light?

12:55 Yours is definetely not the kind of writing we need now!

The WDT editorial board has sidestepped the whole wind issue for the past two years. Only they know why. We can only guess.

However, the WDT readership area is about to enter a whole new chapter in the wind drama and the energy landscape generally. The recent town elections, the eneactment of New York's Article X, the global financial crisis, the US budget crisis, and the huge new natural gas finds are all impacting the wind development efforts in the North Country.

One would think the WDT editors would want to help readers better understand these overlapping realities and events. One would think...

Johnson is a scumbag. He dictates what goes into the paper. It seems someone takes offense to calling him a scumbag. Too bad. This column was written only two years ago. hat needs to be written has already been written. What do we have for the effort? The term "scumbag" is a cliche', but then so is the corruption that creates them. That's why they're called scumbags. Sellouts. Want good writing? " 12:55 Yours is definetely not the kind of writing we need now!" Try writing something useful. My suggestion was to boycott the WTD. The majority opinion is over ruled by greed and the need to control the diatribe. If the real truth was written two years ago, why did the towns let it get this far? Maybe taking a good poke at Perry White will make him rethink his position in the world. Since logic and common sense doesn't seem to work. Maybe that's exactly the type of writing we need. Or do you want to talk about decibels and flicker some more? People don't listen when they should. If no one was listening then, it's not likely they will now. Decisions have to be made before mistakes are made. I made all the right decisions long before it was even an issue. They have to contend with me, and I don't see where they could be concerned with your opinion. You seem to be more concerned with my use of the word scumbag. Makes me wonder. Perry has a choice. Do the right thing, or just be another scumbag. Deal with it.
