Hurricane Irene, Versus Wind Turbines

The answer my friend is blowing in the wind

According to specs, a modern turbine can take 135 MPH winds. Since 135 MPH winds would most likely cause serious problems all around, it's not likely at least they would impede on any natural beauty beyond that point. They are controlled by software that shut them down when the grid fails to protect workers restoring the main power. Supposedly. A main breaker has to be reset and the blades have to put back into motion by battery back-up. Trust me, I've met some of New York's "engineers" and saw the level of expertise they share. It's another case of nepotism waiting to happen, since these jobs go to these offsprings of political ineptitude. Look at Cape Vincent's own town hall, and then ask yourself where are they going to find qualified people when the town is run by idiots? I think Urban has shown a modicum of reason and will most likely make rational choices. If it's left up to the moron twins and ASSociates, I'd pack up and leave town if I were you. Let them pay the bills with all that money they'll make. NOT.

The small turbines shredded. The large NPS systems did fine. We clocked a max wind speed of 98mph on the cay.
