Metalcraft Chooses Cape Vincent ~ Real Jobs For Real People

CLAYTON — MetalCraft Marine plans to “gradually move” its Clayton operation to Cape Vincent and double its U.S. staff in anticipation of landing a multimillion-dollar contract for high-speed fireboats, according to the co-owner of the company.
Thomas Wroe, president of the Kingston, Ontario-based aluminum boat manufacturer, said that the port authority of Houston, Texas, is just a few signatures away from placing a $15 million order for three FireStorm 70s and that his company has found a property in Cape Vincent with adequate space to build these 70-foot watercraft.

Initially, he said, MetalCraft looked into developing a Clayton property to expand its U.S. presence, but after months without any significant progress decided to look elsewhere.

“We’ve been searching up and down the river to find a waterfront facility with enough headroom,” Mr. Wroe said.

To make it easier to transport materials to and from MetalCraft’s Kingston shop, Mr. Wroe on Thursday asked Sen. Kirsten E. Gillibrand, D-N.Y., to help Cape Vincent build a small commercial port.

Sen. Gillibrand attended a round-table discussion with local business owners Thursday afternoon at the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority, Alexandria Bay, as part of her tour of the north country.

One thing for sure, this MetalCraft deal fits completely with the kind of future planning that was outlined in our town and village's comprehensive plan. I don't know who to thank for helping bring them here, but I've got an idea one of them is a gray-haired man who sits in the town office on the hill. Whoever helped attract this kind of business to the Cape, my hats off to all of you. Many thanks.

Once the wind developers leave and the corrupted officials voted out of office, this town will explode with good things.

I wonder if Harold will make the owners show a New York State ID to hire anyone from Cape Vincent.

No one could object to a maritime town doing maritime things. Somehow, I don;t think these boats are intended for putting out Wind Turbine fires. My guess is, there are a few town planners who have had there heads too far up some Gross ass to see this one coming.

Having read the production process of aluminum, there seems to be little need for concern with any environmental impacts. Humans are exposed to more aluminum in antiperspirants than anything else. Although, electricity (electrolysis) is the usual method of working with aluminum melting and production. Aluminum manufacturing accounts for about 8% of all electricity consumption in the US.

Houston, Houston, we can hear you !! Since the early 1900’s Texas has been, and still is, a major source of US oil and gas. With nearly 4,000 employees at our Houston HQ, and almost 2,000 more at the Texas City refinery just to the south, the Houston area has one of the largest gatherings of BP employees in the world. BP’s operations in Texas range from refining and petrochemicals to pipelines and gas processing to oil-and-gas exploration and production. What a coincidence, Texas can't build aluminum boats? Homeland security and other government agencies use them, too. This seems to be quite a coincidence that Cape Vincent finds itself on a whole different map these days. This should be interesting to watch this all play out. Better than watching FOX news, for sure.

BP METALCRAFT , previously a manufacture of sheet metal products was dissolved in 1997.

MetalCraft marine was created in 1987 in Ontario. So, there appears there is no relationship between BP and Metal Craft. That wouldn't be a good thing. Gee, maybe things will be done in the open for a change. Which means it's not likely the Masons or their buddies got a piece of this deal, hey? Don't forget in all of this excitement to get in there and vote. Had a thought. With a Spanish company, and a Canadian company, and a Houston based oil company with interest in Cape Vincent, doesn't it seem ironic that anyone would care about outsiders voting in local elections ? After all, next time around who knows how many more "outsiders" will take up residence.
