It comes down to wind in the race for town supervisor in Cape Vincent and the two candidates' stances on the topic couldn't be more different.

There's incumbent Republican candidate Urban Hirschey, who says a proposed wind plan is just wrong for the future of Cape Vincent.

"If you crowd that many into a town, you're obviously going to destroy the viewscapes, but more importantly you're probably going to annoy a lot of people because they're going to be too close to people,"

And then there's newcomer and Conservative Party candidate Harvey White.

"I'm supportive of wind anywhere, not just in Cape Vincent. I support wind power in general and all kinds of renewable energy," said White.

White is a dairy farmer from Cape Vincent.

He signed contracts that would allow wind companies to put turbines on two pieces of his property.

He says the town supervisor needs to work with wind companies to ensure the best scenario for Cape Vincent.

"Whoever is elected I think working with the two wind companies would be more beneficial," said White.

Hirschey grew up in Carthage and worked 40 years for his family business there before retiring in Cape Vincent.

He says he first ran for town supervisor two years ago because he felt wind companies were trying to convince residents that turbines are good for Cape Vincent.

"I didn't agree and I felt that we didn't have a voice in the government, we'd have to live with the consequences," said Hirschey.

You may be surprised to learn that the two candidates do have some opinions in common.

For instance, both say job creation is essential for the future of the Cape Vincent.

The tinted glasses don't hide the cocky expression on White's face. I suppose being bipolar might explain why he refuses to obey the laws. Just because no one is willing to enforce them doesn't mean he won't be held accountable. Uraban Hirschey seems genuine in his concerns. It's pretty pointless to say anyone is for creating jobs. It seems Mr Hirschey has already done his part in that area. I didn't hear anyone say he stuck any money in his own pockets for doing it either. It seems that Mr White is already getting plenty of money in subsidies for not producing milk and now added to it more subsidies to sell out the farm to wind power. Nice bit of triple dipping, and then some, most likely. I don't trust Mr White one tiny bit. You can't compare the two. One retired from a family business after 40 years and one has managed to literally push a nice town to the brink of ruin to a foreign interest. The National grid isn't national at all. It's just another politically connected machine that is in the business of making profits for investors, and lobby money for corrupted politicians. If this happened at the national level a lot of both parties would be scrutinized more carefully.

I want my money! I want my money, dammit!

Wow.

Watching this news clip -- and if you didn't know better -- you would think that Harvey was a lifelong member of the Sierra Club, the Natural Resources Defense Council and Greenpeace.

"National"Grid; LONDON, May 19 (Reuters) - "National Grid (NG.L), BRITAIN's biggest energy distributor, Said investment in its home market and ongoing U.S. restructuring meant the outlook was positive, when meeting forecasts with a 25 percent jump in year profit. Management declined to comment on reports that former BP (BP.L) chief executive John Browne was in the running. Adjusted pretax profit rose 25 percent to 2.5 billion pounds ($4.0 billion)." So, when Hirschey says he wants to create jobs, How about jobs for people here in the US for a change. Sending our tax dollars to Great Britain and Spain for profits and jobs there is one of the problems in this country. Maybe the pro wind people just got dust in their eyes and the cash felt so good in their hands they forgot what country they live in.

So, what jobs has White created? Well, I hear at least one of his employees got sent to jail for stealing towns funds and Hirschey helped bring in a very appropriate business to town building high tech rescue boats. Too bad for Great Britain and Spain. We need jobs here too.
