Lyme passes wind law in 4-1 vote SATURDAY, AUGUST 11, 2012

THREE MILE BAY — After a heated public debate over setbacks and noise limits, Lyme’s Town Council adopted today a new set of rules that would “zone out” wind farms.
The vote was 4-1 with Deputy Supervisor Don Bourquin casting the sole “nay” because he felt the turbine noise caps should be consistent with the neighboring town of Cape Vincent’s less restrictive standards to make it more “defendable” when considered by a state siting board under New York’s Article X process. I agree with Don. And J lee previously reported that the sound limits would be lower daytime. Makes no sense.

I saw the law. Lee misquoted and had it backwards. Their law calls for 30 at night and 35 during the day. It would have been nice if Lyme could have joined Hammond, Orleans and Cape Vincent using the same restrictive, nighttime noise standard - 35 dBA. It would have strengthened all our positions. Nevertheless, their law represents the interest of their people, which it should.
