Cape Vincent sends a letter to the Public Service Commission Re: Oct. Public work session

Below is a rendering of the letter and below that is the letter as it was downloaded from the Public Service Commission website.

Ms. Katrina Landis                                                        October 30, 2012
Chief Executive Officer
BP Alternative Energy

Reference: BP Cape Vincent Wind Power project

 Dear Ms. Landis,

On Tuesday evening, October 23, a public work session of the Town Council and the Planning Board of the Town of Cape Vincent, NY was held for the purpose of considering the proposed British Petroleum wind power project in our town.

Present before us to inform us about the project and to respond to our questions was BP Wind Power Development Director, Richard Chandler.

It has become the norm in Cape Vincent for meetings of our Town Council and Planning Board to be recorded. Enclosed for your reference is a video disc recording of the full length of Tuesday's meeting.

We provide you with this recording in the hope that you will view it and thereby better inform yourself about the receptivity of our people and their town government to the proposed BP project. More than once Mr. Chandler asserted his confidence that the BP project enjoys our community support and that BP is not prepared to move forward in communities where such support is lacking. We found it hard to believe our ears. The great majority of our residents do not want your project in our town and they want any future development to be compatible with our zoning laws.

To be frank, Ms. Landis, we were astonished and taken aback by Mr. Chandler's persistent unwillingness to respond to very straightforward and pertinent questions respectfully asked of him by each of the undersigned town officials. What happened Tuesday evening was anything but a candid and open discussion with us regarding the
aspects, implications and history of your wind project here. Mr. Chandler simply refused to have that conversation, answering our questions only in the narrowest fashion possible often to the point of being completely unresponsive and patently evasive. To say this was a frustrating evening for the government of the Town of Cape Vincent would be an understatement.

Again, we ask you to view the enclosed recording and make every other effort to understand what has obviously escaped Mr. Chandler, Cape Vincent values its small- town roots and does not want what we consider the industrial blight that will accompany your project. We also ask that you re-evaluate your company's plans, because what you propose for Cape Vincent is not only incompatible with our community's vision, but is also incompatible with BP's wind projects elsewhere, since there are many more people here and we are committed to protecting their health, safety and general welfare.

Thank you for your close attention to this and we would very much welcome your response.

Sincerely yours,

Urban Hirschey - Supervisor

Brooks of Bragdon – Deputy Supervisor

John Byrne – Town Board

Clif Schneider – Town Board

Richard Macsherry – Planning Board Chair

Robert Brown – Planning Board

Cyril Cullen – Planning Board

Paul Docteur – Planning Board

Excellent letter by the CV TB and PB leaving no doubt in anyone's mind what the position is for the town of CV. The TB and PB of Lyme and also Clayton should also send a similar letter to BP and the the others expressing disgust for the wind project. Its not too early to advise NYS government of the town's position either.

Great response to Chandler's obfuscation.

Why not send a copy of this letter to Andrew Cuomo with an added post script-"Kiss our asses"!

Voters for Wind have given us the wrong information. Hopefully they will be held responsible as we all endure economic loss.

The letter is spot on, it reflects what I witnessed at the meeting.

There is a big disconnect with BP as to the message this town is sending, the message will only get louder.

This is a good move. I mentioned this as a possible move a couple weeks a go and am glad to see the board did it.

Should have had the Lyme boards sign it too in support.

Now send it also to:

Cuomo
Our local state reps.
And every NY legislator
All the Art X commisioners

Next pass a resolution opposing Art X. get the other local towns on board and make it a regional resolution. Then write another letter telling them we will not send reps to Art X and will not provide a place in our communities to for them to meet.

Then pass a community bill of rights. Encourage the other towns to do it as well. Make it a media PR splash.

The top people on the Art X boards don't live here nor do most of the politicians who passed Art X. They don't care. We will bear the discomfort of their decisions. They need to be made damn uncomfortable too in every way we can think of for removing our home rule rights, then they might pay attention. They have to bear some cost.

Soon Cuomo runs for Gov again. Start doing the research NOW as to who might run against him as a Rep. and give them and earful about Cuomo's bullshit in CV including Aubertine and the ivestigation, and what he is doing with rights and Art X.

They should not skate away unscathed politically.

This was a good move.

For the town board's biggest critic to take credit for this letter is shameful.

Thank goodness Art was not the author of this letter. I have never encountered anyone in my life who is so clueless about the art of persuasion.

But then, this post isn't about Art, is it?

I am not taking credit for their letter. I am praising them for their direction which appears to agree with something I suggested earlier. You can go back and look it up in the comments either here or on JLL.

And the art of pursuasion...really??? I would not say the letter was exactly "persuasion". It seemed rather frontal to me. Good!!!

Keep in mind your town board is going along with the Art X process which BP will use to ram a wind farm down our throats and take away our home rule rights. Maybe it's time we stop trying to be so damn subtle!!!

Oh yes... and subtle?...well your board just rented the tax payer funded community Rec Center facility, an icon of community involvement and cooperation and pride to BP so BP can once again come here and demonstrate with signs, graphs and, maps how they intend to blatantly violate our laws and remove our rights. BP will use the Rec Center to further their Art X process to screw our community over and they could care less.

That is not the subtle art of pursuasion...that is obscene!!!

We should not be providing BP a place to meeting in our town to further their agenda...period!

And maybe you haven't noticed 6:46 and 7:48 I have been standing solidily and strongly and PUBLICLY since 2006 against this disaster brought on our community.

Maybe you should get a CLUE and stop spewing your venon on one of the few people who has been truly anti wind and willing to defend this community and put their name behind it.

Maybe you should start spewing your venom on the real enemy about to take your town and rights away.

BP and Article X.!

Oh yes and put yout NAME on it when you do. Being anonymous you are so damn subtle nobody knows who you are or what you stand for.

Not real persuasive!

Our community is about to go over a cliff, and we are going to find out who is really and seroiusly willing to defend against that.

You better start putting your name on defending our community otherwise nobody is going to give damn, and you are just wasting everyones time!
