Special Report: Is going green destroying the lives of locals?

By: Taryn Kane ALBANY, N.Y. -- Huge wind turbines are dotting the landscape in New York and Massachusetts, producing megawatts of green energy. So why would people living near these giant windmills want them out?

Would you want your children to get into the wind business?

Thanks for sharing this piece. I was a little disappointed that it stated Iberdrola had "followed all local regulations" - but did not explain if those existed before the wind company arrived - were the local laws written at a time when communities did not truely understand the complexities of sound, health and other issues? The MA official was committed to "wind" and claims they support protection of citizens....but what does that mean if local communities are caught off guard when the wind companies come looking for a place to make money? At the very least....it was some press! After all - this is an Albany NY area station!

Of course that is their claim. If those local regulations were developed despite information from others that said otherwise then perhaps the town or other locals will be found liable. For example in your town your wind voters have repeatedly made claims that their turbines will not effect land values. They were told by anti wind that was not true but they insisted on passing on the bad information anyway. One of your wind voters even claimed that a well respected appraiser was telling "lies, lies, lies" while at the same time claiming that Wolfe Island property was increasing in value.

One rule for working in the wind game is two years, or less in the field, go to confession or become reborn and then find an honest job. That is for those who believe in a God.

If you are a witch or a wizard of the occult, then I do not believe there is any time limit.

That is very important. In Clayton Justin Taylor is a big fan of Iberdrola and Art. x. Our Clayton wind law was "taylored" to the satisfaction of Iberdrola. I think he may be smelling the perfume. But the real danger here is that Iberdrola has used the same model as the other projects which have now become a social and economic disaster for the residents of two destroyed towns. I do not believe Justin is educated in wind impacts enough to know the difference and too stubborn to admit there are some serious problems with this stuff around the world. He seems too intent on belittling those who gave it a try to point out some bad things to him.

I was introduced to Mr. Taylor at a Clayton showing of Windfall. It was a beautiful evening and a beautiful town. But it did not take long for Mr. Taylor to insult me after I attempted to warn him about some issues we had with developers.

I'm sure Don Mason and Joe Wood could go down to this area near Albany and find plenty of folks(or at least 8) to refute the claims these people are making. I hope none of them are judges, because as Don informed the residents of Cape Vincent, judges are not allowed to make public comments about wind turbines. That is unless you are a judge in Cape Vincent ,with the initials KG, and you happen to be very pro-wind, and enjoy spouting off in public about the "idiots that are against wind".

Its not fair to the developer to let people complain about turbines after they are built.

They don't have to go down and get em. Marion could give a call and make them good neighbors in return for chatting up some of Little Appalachia folks up in these parts.
