Clayton council members defend town supervisor

CLAYTON — Three Town Council members at a meeting Wednesday night defended Supervisor Justin A. Taylor, who had been accused by opponents of wind development of deceiving the public and secretly working with Iberdrola Renewables to assist the developer with the Horse Creek Wind Farm proposal.[Watertowntimes]

Now looks as though the entire town council believes closed door secret meetings with Iberdrola are a proper way to do the public's business. This sets the stage for things to come. It will all be kept hush, hush. We will find out what happens if and when the council decides to tell us.

5:36,

There is something you could find helpful in Clayton.

Elections.

Amazing what participatory democracy can accomplish if people actually participate.

But if most people figure they will always be under the boot of a ruling oligarchy, it is pretty hard to achieve change.

There are good basic questions of governance here. Should public officials engage in any behind the scenes, closed door, secret negotiations? Taylor might respond that if no decisions are made during secret meetings, then how is the public hurt? If local government is trying to help its community to grow then why wouldn't they crawl into bed with a developer? On the other hand, what harm would be done if all these meetings with developers were open to the public for all to see and hear?

"This town is not run by one person" Tough words from a councilman who normally follows Taylor around like a puppy.

Must be Peterson is contemplating a run for supervisor!

Surprised these Clayton councilmen even bothered to speak to the press. They are usually quite content to let Justin Taylor run the show, contrary to what Mr. Peterson says. Talk about sticking your head in the sand. How can these councilman say the townspeople are well informed when no information was public until it was foiled and subsequently released via the news media?

could be some interesting elections around the north country this year.
