Justin Taylor Could be the Super of the Coolest Town in New York State
Town of Clayton Supervisor Justin Taylor should sit down with the industrial wind turbine economic impact committees from the Towns of Orleans and Cape Vincent. He could learn some things if would open his eyes and ears.
Back in early 2010, when I was facilitating the Orleans Wind Economic Committee, I attended one of the Clayton Town Council meetings and subsequently briefed Justin and the Clayton Council on our findings, and invited them to participate in the committee meetings.
Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed by their lack of interest. Not even one question followed… Don’t call us - we will call you seemed to be the sentiment… oh well.
Soon after, we made the same offer to Cape Vincent’s new Wind Economics Committee. They were interested and asked a lot of questions. They took up Orleans’s Economic study and extended it.
It would seem that study committees are not of much interest to someone who is already committed to supporting wind, despite what new information or other points of view might reveal. Justin’s mind has been made up for a long time. He ignored his appointed wind committee’s unanimous recommendations, and proceeded with his “Wind is Welcome in Horse Creek” stance. After all, as he put it to me face to face, “Who in Clayton is going to see the turbines in Horse Creek?”
You need to be aware that the blinking red synchronized lights on the top of the turbine nacelles would make for Christmas-like light show that would be visible from most spots on the river near Clayton, and from Grindstone Island and other area islands.
In my opinion, if Justin Taylor had done due diligence in studying the adverse impacts to the health, safety and welfare of his constituents from the potential Horse Creek project, he would be far more skeptical about it than he now appears to be.
I see evidence that he is communicating regularly with Iberdrola and aiding them in transforming one of the “coolest” resort areas in the country into an industrial turbine complex with as many as 188 turbines, each nearly 500 ft tall, or possibly taller!.
That’s not his job – to be a facilitator for an industrial developer to the point of acting as their agent and de-facto partner. He should be actively looking out for the interests of the constituents he is paid to serve and that should be his only priority.
