I noticed they put two reporters on this story. Pulitzer prize material.

I could see the paper doing a syrupy, in-depth piece on the North Country's sugar bush business. Of course, there isn't much controversy about some sap running out of a tree. No pro-sap vs anti-sap proponents striking out at one another. No families or friends split over syrup - the dark vs light preferences dividing families. Therefore, the WDT is safe on the sap story. But, if sap becomes controversial, especially if it has class overtones, then look for the WDT to begin "managing" their position. Managing, of course, means figuring out how the paper can make the bigger buck, which means take no position that would alienate MOST readers.

Not much future in news. Printing labels for syrup bottles might have a future. But only if Ted Booker could get it right. There is a new grading system and that would require some investigation and fact finding.
