Your opinion counts! Help the Thousand Islands be all it can be!

Thousand Islands Regional Assessment Project: Developing Scenic Areas of Statewide Significance

The Division of Coastal Resources seeks to “achieve a balance between economic development and preservation that will permit the beneficial use of coastal resources while preventing the loss of living marine resources and wildlife, diminution of open space areas or public access to the waterfront, shoreline erosion, impairment of scenic beauty, or permanent damage to ecological systems.”

Help the Thousand Islands Scenic Assessment Project find out where the best scenery is in the 1000 Islands by taking the following short survey of images from around the region. The survey doesn’t take a lot of time and allows you to quickly rate pictures of the wide range of scenery that makes our area special and helps drive our economy.
Hundreds of people will rate the scenery, giving us a better idea of what people in our region think is scenic. Our consultants will take this information and include it in the system they use to determine which areas should be awarded the distinction of being designated “Scenic Areas of Statewide Significance’ – the highest ranking for scenic coastal landscapes in the entire state. The highest ranked landscapes will be eligible for state assistance for tourism promotion, economic development and protection of scenic resources through the involvement in the planning and design of large scale development projects.
Your answers to this survey are important! They will become part of the record that will describe the scenic features of our region. This is your chance to be part of the project!
