Russell Pulls Ahead In 116th Assembly Vote Count ???

Incumbent Democrat Addie Russell took the lead Tuesday over Republican challenger John Byrne as absentee ballots continued to be counted in the race for the 116th Assembly District.

The St. Lawrence County Board of Elections began counting the 991 ballots Monday.

As of Tuesday, Russell pulled ahead of Byrne by 160 votes. Continue reading...

In a sense it will be a relief if the whole mess of challenged ballots can be simply dispelled with the eventuality of Russell winning by simple math. It would be unfortunate if many well-intentioned folks lost money in a lawsuit for a worthy cause, fighting for an unworthy candidate.

I disagree. I would hope this issue of challenging voters because of their seasonal residency should be resolved once and for all in federal court. The Cape and Jefferson County cannot continue to be threatened in the future by those who believe they have special voting rights attached to their diapers hanging on local clothes line. Constitution says nothing about worthiness in a candidate, that's for the voters to decide.

Just saying it would be a more valuable cause, if the end result was a truly credible representative for the district. In this case, what do we get for the fight- Russell or Byrne- whoopie!
