And he attacked his former agency for altering report results to diminish their importance.

NextEra Energy Resources L.L.C. has set sights on private emails, texts, and voice mails as part of an effort to find “potentially impermissible communications” among newly elected officials in Almer and Ellington townships.

Niagara County Legislature endorses Collins wind bill

LOCKPORT — The Niagara County Legislature on Tuesday endorsed Rep. Chris Collins' bill that would in effect block a proposed local wind power project.

The Legislature is concerned that the presence of wind turbines proposed for sites in the towns of Somerset and Yates, some 25 miles from the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, would interfere with operations there and tempt the Pentagon to place the base on a closure list the next time Congress directs military cutbacks. On the surface, the fight over renewable-energy siting in western New York looks hopelessly mismatched. Governor Andrew Cuomo—the scion of a Democratic political dynasty and the leader of a state with nearly 20 million residents—is pushing a scheme that will require the state’s utilities to derive 50 percent of their electricity from renewables by 2030. Cuomo’s highest-profile opponent is Dan Engert, the Republican supervisor in the Niagara County town of Somerset—population 2,700. Last year, Engert won a third term by garnering about 400 votes.
