Independence Day
Two hundred and thirty six years ago, the United States of America declared independence from Great Britain.

When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. —
Not everyone holds these truths to be self - evident.
One year ago today a grass roots movement was taking place in Cape Vincent to elevate our community from oppression of a government that excluded us from the democratic process and sought to bar citizens from voting our most fundamental right in American democracy.
In Cape Vincent exists a modern day feudal society, consisting of people that refer to themselves as lifelong residents, a title that endows them with a supremacy over all other residents.
Our community is struggling to get out from under British rule. BP, a corporate aristocracy that embedded itself into our community, with a divide and conquer strategy exploiting the bigotry and class warfare that thrives in Cape Vincent. A downright Un-American mindset that is destroying the core ideals that this country was founded upon.
The self-evident, truth that all men are created equal, that we are endowed by a Creator with certain unalienable Rights that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness is a truth that empowers everyone not just those who belong to Cape Vincent’s lifelong resident club.
We must never forget our history but it is essential that we find common ground and build upon it

K, a great local take on our Declaration of Independence. Yes, we have broken the foreign corporate chains that tried to bind this community. Let it also be known that our resolve grows stronger each day, but especially on this day.
