Danish Wind Turbine manufacturer ~ Vestas announced Friday it has
cut more than 800 jobs in the United States and Canada this year and may be
forced to lay off another 800 employees in North America. Vestas
said without more tax credits and stimulus funds, the company will have trouble
competing. Vestas has already received $50 million in stimulus dollars, when is
enough, enough?
Recently Vestas has been plagued with problems ,earlier this year Vestas Wind Systems, (the world’s largest turbine maker) cut 6 percent of its North American work force, because of softening demand for renewable energy projects.
In the face of work force cuts and financial losses approximately four times greater than analysts had expected, the finance chief of Vestas, quit and other directors have decide not to seek re-election to the board.
Vestas plagued with more problems
Vestas slumped in Copenhagen trading after ING Groep NV said the company sent a joint letter with Gamesa Corporacion Tecnologica SA informing clients of manufacturing defects that need repair.
Not only is Vestas having trouble with some of their older model wind turbines but now a New Wind Turbine Model Caught Fire March 30, at a wind farm in Lower Saxony, Germany,
However, Vestas was able to put a positive spin on the turbine fire
Vestas said that safe access to the wind turbine was still possible and that the fire was burning under "controlled conditions."
Vestas is investigating this fire as well as another incident resulting in the injury of a worker at the Macarthur Wind Farm, in Australia
“Vestas can confirm that the injured worker was not crushed by a wind turbine or a wind turbine blade,” the company said in a statement.
