CAPE VINCENT — Town officials want “assurance” from the state Public Service Commission that Maureen F. Harris, a PSC commissioner who is married to an attorney representing BP Wind Energy, will not influence the Article X siting deliberations for the wind project.
Mrs. Harris is married to John S. Harris, an attorney working for BP. The wind developer and PSC said last week Mrs. Harris does not have a say in the outcome of state siting reviews.

• Points to ponder: How does the Article 10 process (that takes home rule away from local government) foster confidence or trust with the public?
• How does Former Atty. Gen. Cuomo’s investigation in Cape Vincent build any trust in wind development, trust in government, when that investigation was never completed

• How does Cuomo’s appointment of Cape Vincent’s former State Senator, Darrel Aubertine for Agricultural Commissioner build confidence with the public? The Aubertine family holds wind leases and Senator Aubertine most likely lost his bid for senator over just the appearance of a conflict of interest, not to mention the letter he wrote to the Cape Vincent board stating his opinion that the conflicted CV town board officials have the responsibility to act on wind issue despite the conflicts of interests. Tell me how that inspires trust?
• How does it look to the public when we learn that BP’s lawyer, John Harris is married to PSC commissioner, Maureen Harris. Whether she is directly involved in that decision or not, how does it appear to the public?
• What perception does the public have of Maureen Harris when they learn that before she was appointed to the PSC, she paid $50,000 to end an investigation into state benefits she was improperly received while working as a lawyer for the HFM- BOCES? Then Attorney General Cuomo had this to say about his investigation into state benefits:
