HAMMOND — Hammond is looking to put the Thousand Island Islands-St. Lawrence River region on the map as a top scenic area in the state.
Town Supervisor Ronald W. Bertram and a committee will work with multiple towns and villages inland and along the river to designate the region as a Scenic Area of Statewide Significance.[Watertown Times]

The TI region is a New York State gold mine. Money in the bank. When NYS Ag commish was a senator he tried to turn our region into NY's Energy Valley when he should have been promoting our tourism potential with a nice blend of ag-tourism. But he had signed turbine contracts and sold us out.
Will Addie Russell support the designation. I know Ritchie will. We've talked.
Certainly Darrell Aubertine won't because he believes in the you can't tell me what I can do with my land. And I don't think he will campaign for any town candidate that would support Cape beauty and tourism.
This is very welcome and long overdue.
Aside from our area state legislators, we should expect support for this from local chambers of commerce.
The Thousand Islands International Tourism Council, and the Seaway Trail should actively get behind it for reasons that are obvious.
Thanks to the Hammond supervisor for being the hammer on this.
This will be a battle since-VOTERS FOR WIND ,TRIESTE AND aSSOCIATES, BRITISH PETROLEUM, AND GOVERNOR CUOMO, ALL PREFER SCENIC DEGRADATION
