Notable Quotes & Quotable Notes

 April 6, 2006

Cape Vincent Planning Board Chairman Richard Edsall explained that wind development was a slow process...

"You're welcome to bring a contingent, stay on top of everything, and make recommendations," the Planning Board chairman said. "And those recommendations, at that point, would be considered by the Planning Board on each specific turbine. If we're looking at the project, and the project has 60 turbines, we look at the placement of each one in regards to roads, houses, cemeteries, archaeological finds, anything else that you can think of that's a significant impact. You're welcome to come and participate in that process."

"This is a slow process going through the Planning Board," he said. "The first wind project could take six months."

Way back in 2006 Edsall was talking the talk, trying to create a general public acceptance of the inevitability of wind development in the town. All these years later the wind agents are still trying to make the whole thing sound inevitable. It is a tactic that has not changed. It is designed to discourage us from resisting. Hasn't worked so well, has it?

Not so fast - obviously. And things have changed a lot since 2006. Many more us now know what an energy ineffective subsidy seeking scam it is. Locally, many taxpayers have come out of the shadows to assert their rightful voice in local affairs and democratic choice.

I'll just take some partial satisfaction on this Wednesday morning in 2013. That satisfaction comes from knowing that Richard Edsall has not been able to enrich himself at my direct expense for the years between 2006 and now.

Think about what prompted Mr. Edsall to drop out of sight. Did he get tired, frustrated and say the hell with his potential $1 million payout?

I speculate Edsall's resignation came on the heels of a phone call from BP's business director of the month that BP was no longer going to deal with the pesky town, but rather would wait for their savior, Article 10.

After that call I could see Mr. Edsall saying if he no longer had control then it wasn't worth the terrible abuse he was taking by those bump-and-run anti-wind zealots.

It is laughable how Edsall and the VFW leaseholders are all now in the corner praying for the take over of the State and hoping that Cape Vincent loses its home rule and wishing that the State and BP trash our local laws.

Money can do remarkable things to some people's supposed values.

And I will take some satisfaction that he got caught holding a secret meeting and lied to the people of Cape Vincent.

Mr. Edsall who is now a seasonal part time resident with a home in Florida recently described himself as a businessman. It appears that he has been trying to start his business in Cape Vincent since he signed his first leases with what is now bp. During much of that time he served as planning board chairman. The planning board was the lead agent in wind development including his.

anon 8:50 Was your wording unintentional, or are intimating that Rich Edsall could be the incredibly arrogant and illogical commentor of late who goes by the moniker of "Start a business in Cape Vincent"

Stay Focused,

Mr. Edsall was violating his own PB by-laws by not allowing privilege of the floor.

Edsall became irate when brave citizens took the challenge to let the public know what was actually going on with his planning board.

Edsall often shut down meetings when very important questions were being asked about wind and how it might affect the health, welfare and safety of all the town citizens. After meetings were over, he is known to have berated citizens and especially the bloggers who were accurately reporting on his behavior.

You can get a sense of the way Edsall was operating by viewing this video.

I'd like to see Pandora put Edsall's picture on a milk carton asking, "Why would this man think Cape Vincent didn't need a wind law?"

Visit this video to see Edsall's refusal to allow public discourse regarding his wind development.

What followed Edsall's downhill slide was not a discussion of the merits of the wind development but an attack by pro wind on the people providing the public information. The brave lady who brought Edsall down became a target of pro-wind's vicious slurs as well as other actions against her. Edsall went on a rage about the condition of her family farm property even though many pro-wind farms are kept in the same condition.

Although Edsall did not become a plaintiff in the lawsuit against the bloggers and community members providing valuable information, it is thought by many that Edsall has helped the community organizer and bp by advising the plaintiffs. Marion Trieste said in a webinar on how to organize a community to accept wind that lawsuits were part of her community outreach.

Not one person on those town boards spoke up and said...hey perhaps the guy with the camera has a valid point..someone ask Freeman about it. Guess what. The guy with the camera is now on the town board. Democracy prevails!

In those days Maz called them little Appalachia..not a dumb woman

Part of the problem seemed to be that Edsall and his notetakers may have been going back to the group being advised by the community organizer and helping to prepare the minutes and write the town record on wind development. I think that is why Edsall was so concerned about people speaking and a video taken at meetings.

Arrgghh! another photo of Rich Edsall! How can we ever put the blemish of his reign behind us if you keep posting these visual reminders.

Its bad enough seeing him on the street,do we have to suffer on our PC screens as well?

Makes a lot of vomit rise in my throat.

Wait till this summer, you'll see more of him not only in the Cape. May the vomit rise even faster in your mouth, but also in your nose.
