Kevin Jenkins (608) 266-3512In Glenmore, Wisconsin, several families have been forced to abandon their homes because of sickness caused by 500 foot tall industrial wind turbines too close to their home. Alyssa Ashley, a 16 year old girl, had severe headaches and ear pain. She couldn’t sleep at night. Her grades fell at school because she was sick and couldn’t concentrate. Once her family abandoned their home and took on a second mortgage for a home away from wind turbines, her life improved. Unfortunately, her family continues to pay for a home that no one can live in. I don’t want to see more stories like Alyssa’s in the headlines.
It is the duty of every elected official to protect the health and safety of constituents, but current law prohibits local government officials from enacting ordinances to protect the families they serve from the devastating effects of industrial wind turbines.
“When PSC 128 was created in 2010 by a committee stacked with wind interested members, the scientific information about the devastating health effects of industrial wind turbines was ignored and kept from the record. They took away the power of local units of government to protect their families from the devastating impacts of industrial wind turbines,” said Senator Lasee. “Since that time, dozens of peer-reviewed studies have proven that 500 foot tall industrial wind turbines too close to homes cause headaches, motion sickness and insomnia. And other countries that led the way in these wind turbines have banned them near people’s homes.”
State Senator Frank Lasee has introduced legislation to correct this problem and give local officials the right to draft ordinances to restrict industrial wind turbine siting, provided the ordinance restriction is to protect the health and safety of residents.
“This bill is about giving local elected officials the power to decide if they want to enact ordinances to protect their residents from the devastating health effects of 500 foot tall industrial wind turbines.”
