The NY State Department
of State has developed a scenic assessment program that identifies the scenic
qualities of coastal landscapes, evaluates them against criteria for
determining aesthetic significance, and recommends areas for designation as
Scenic Areas of Statewide Significance (SASS).
SASS designation
protects scenic landscapes through review of projects requiring State or
federal actions, including direct actions, permits, or funding. Guidance
for assessing the overall visual characteristics of a waterfront is included in
the Making the Most of Your Waterfront guidebook.
The first application of
the State’s scenic assessment program was in the Hudson River Valley coastal
region, where six areas in Columbia, Greene, Dutchess and Ulster counties were
designated in 1993 as Scenic Areas of Statewide Significance. In 2010,
nine areas totaling more than 25,000 acres on Long Island’s East End within the
Town and Village of East Hampton were designated as SASSs. The
areas in both the Hudson Valley and East End encompass unique, highly scenic
landscapes accessible to the public and recognized for their outstanding
quality.

I have spent the last 18
years of my life, documenting the unique beauty of the 1000 Islands through
five books of photography, two of which won the international Benjamin Franklin
Award ( http://www.1000islandsphotoart.com/Books.aspx) and
an interactive iPad eBook (MarCom Award): https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/one-in-a-thousand/id518088485?ls=1&mt=8
This region is entirely
unique in the world, a freshwater archipelago of exceptional beauty, located in
the middle of a continent. Its unique quality and beauty has been recognized on
the Canadian side of the border with a Biosphere Reserve designation from
Unesco (http://www.fabr.ca/)
and by the Ontario government as a premier ranked tourism destination -(http://www.mtc.gov.on.ca/en/publications/PR_1000_Islands.pdf)
The same recognition should be given to protect it on the US side, designating the region as a Scenic Area of Statewide Significance (SASS) to protect its heritage, particularly from the major adverse impact that is being considered with the installation of wind farms along its shores.

How can the Thousands Islands even be considered for and Industustrial Wind Complexes from the Cape, Clayton, Alex Bay and downstream past Hammond?
So goes the Cape, so goes the whole St. Lawrence Valley.
Great job with Video.
It's time for us to protect God's Country from those who want to "pave over paradise and put in a parking lot".
