Real Property Director Paul E. Warneck, said that property revaluations that went into effect in March in the towns of Lyme and Cape Vincent may be the motivating factor behind the interest in the program.

The Jefferson County Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board approved applications from 13 property owners who want their land included in one of the county’s three agricultural districts Tuesday night.
The 13 applications represent 19 parcels of land almost entirely located in the northern part of the county, according to E. Hartley Bonisteel, the Planning Department official managing the program.

This is an interesting issue for the Cape. If landowners are registering for inclusion in an ag district to lower their tax bill, this will shift the tax burden to residential home owners.
Yup!
Its likely several of the landowners registering for inclusion in an ag. district are merely trying to circumvent the zoning restrictions for personal wind turbines.
Seems unnecesary as the planning board is already showing a willingness to water down their own law,by allowing a commercial solar project in the river district.
7:20....and of course, that will drive up taxes of the people not participating in the Bp wind project. The CFG have done us no good.
