This report is troubling. Hirschey should have kept his future political thoughts private. He should have stated that he always intended to serve out his term. Hirschey's suggestion the deputy job is a stepping-stone to a board position as well as the supervisor's position indicates the entire reshuffle was about the 2015 election. His comments also imply that Hirschey and other Republicans believe Bragdon could not be elected or govern. That could be a major miscalculation. Bragdon could surprise them all. In two years this may all be forgotten. But something tells me it will not be forgotten by one man.
7:51, Not only troubling, but a little baffling too. Hard to figure why Hirschey would label Macsherry as an "outsider" after the recent row over seasonal voters in the elections. Not exactly a moniker likely to endear the new deputy supervisor with the locals, nor one likely to make Macsherry feel all warm, fuzzy, and accepted by the community at large.
In a way he validates the Dems/CFG/Voters for Wind claim and complaint that the town has been taken over by outsiders, by labeling Macsherry as one, while he appoints him to a position of ultimate leadership. Very strange!!
Apparrently Hirschey was not happy with his town council. First he throws Oswald under the campaign bus, then snubs Bragdon, by demoting him from the deputy position. Who's next to receive his displeasure?
I'm a good republican and I'll support Bragdon if he runs for town supervisor. Macsherry is out of the loop and Bragdon is the man for the job. Step down Hirschey, it's what you want to do, so do it. Better now then later.
