Holder: US has no authority to kill Americans with drones on US soil

By Justin Sink

The U.S. does not have the authority to use a drone attack against a U.S. citizen not engaged in combat on U.S. soil, Attorney General Eric Holder told Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) in a Thursday letter.

White House press secretary Jay Carney reveled the letter at his Thursday press briefing. It was sent in response to a 13-hour filibuster Paul held on the Senate floor Wednesday to criticize the administration’s drone policy.

This is dumb shit. If there is a life threatening situation where a bad guy has to be "taken out" to save the life of an innocent person, we should not be debating how it should be done by authorities. Cops kill bad guys all the time without a trial, without a court order and it's nuts to say the police can't do it with a .45 cal, but a 9 mm is okay.

We have protections currently in place that would prevent law enforcement authorities from blowing up a building filled with innocent bystanders just so they could kill one bad guy. We aren't that stupid and if we were the people that called for that kind of response would be sharing a cell with the bad guys.

5:18 Talk about naivete! Do you honestly believe we should not debate how much free reign we give authority? Have you ever watched the movie- A few good men?

Jack Nicholson portrays a general at Guantanamo who objects to a naval lawyer questioning how he exercises his authority to protect America as he deems necessary.

Your trust of "authority is heartwarming, but a truly frightening example of how willing we are as a society to be dominated by those we elect to govern and ensure our safety.

How much are you willing to give up for the sake of safety or the comfort of freedom. When does it not become freedom?

Power corrupts, especially when that power is given freely by those desiring protection.

You're damn right we should be debating this drone issue, especially now before it is assumed appropriate.

What if a foreign corporation invades a US community and gets subversives to help them to take away home rule of their own community? Should the drone hover over the town hall and blow them Up? What's a bit of collateral damage?

5:18 the only thing dumb about this is your idea that it shouldn't be debated. You are probably a George Bush , Don Rumsfield, fan. imagine the cowboy western type fun authorities with testosterone overdose, like these two, would have with drones .

Sure go ahead ,give the FBI and other federal enforcement agencies the freedom to blast felons on American soil, with drone strikes.

Jesus Christ are you mad or just stupid? Its bad enough the federal government is infringing on citizens rights to own guns, whats next on your list. Why not give 'em the power to nuke someone if they're committing a heinous crime.
